Baked In is on a Sustainability Mission

Updated: Jan 1, 2022

The Baked In team are working hard to reduce their impact on the environment. Read on to discover all of the steps they're taking to help make our environment a better place for all.

Back in 2020 they started working with an organisation called Ecologi. Baked In now plant a tree for every Baking, Bread and Junior Baking Club box that they send out, to go towards offsetting the CO2 used in the manufacturing process.

The CO2 footprint of everyone in the Baked In team is also offset through a range of environmental and renewable energy projects. You can read about them below:

Food Waste is the third-largest source of greenhouse gas emissions. Worldwide we throw away over a third of all the food we produce in the world. According to the UN $1 Trillion Dollars worth of food is wasted very year.

Baked in are on a mission to do their part in combatting these shocking figures. Food waste is one of the main reasons they started their business. Have you every bought the ingredients for a bake you had no intention of baking again, but needed to buy way more ingredients than you needed? We've all been there.

That's why Baked |In only provide you with the exact amount of ingredients needed to make your bake, so you won't be left with ingredients that you're not going to use again.

Before your baking box is posted, they send details of any fresh ingredients needed for the bake including the exact weights and measurements. This helps you to purchase only the exact amount you'll need, therefore, minimising any excess. So when a bake asks for fresh ingredients to be added, these are nearly always kitchen essentials (butter and eggs, for example) that you're likely to have in your kitchen. Any additional ingredients, such as fresh fruit are also easy to find and we try to use the whole fruit in the bake (think lemon juice and zest!)

From April 2019, Baked In Boxes have also included storage instructions to make sure you can keep your bakes fresher for longer. Therefore they're less likely to be wasted, although in our family homemade bakes don't last usually last long enough to have to store.

The vast majority of Baked In packaging is easily recyclable (including the single-use plastic sachets).

The plastic we use has always been recyclable, but recently we've moved to a much more easily recyclable material - you can pop them in the carrier bag recycling boxes at most Supermarkets.

Baked In love supporting and helping their local community. Currently they support a number of Charities local to them in Basingstoke and the surrounding areas.

Baked In are passionate in continuing to spread that support further so they are currently working on some exciting new ways to partner with PTA's and charities across the UK in the near future.
